Apr. 9.
One of the easiest ways to get prepared is to get back to the basics. What do I mean by this? This means being able to still do your daily activities or household chores if the power went out for days. Do you currently rely on your powered kitchen gadgets to make your life faster and easier? If you do now is the time for a back-up system. Settlers used candle light, washboards, wood stoves for cooking and raised their own animals for mild and meat. Are you able to do the same? We are fortunate that many living in Portland and Oregon are getting back to the living off the land and being self reliant.
Most of us who live in the city won’t be able to adopt all these options but you can bring one or two into your life. Then find like-minded people who are skilled in other areas so you can come together in the event of a major disaster. This is the goal of Prepare + Survive Expo on April 14th at Buchan Hall at the Eliot Center. We can all learn and get prepared together, creating a stronger community.
We are very excited to have Portland Homesteading Supply Co. at the upcoming event on April 14th. They have everything you need to start urban homesteading. Whether you want to learn how to make your own cheese, can your own fruit and veggies, raise chickens for eggs or make beeswax candles, they have it!
Join us at the event and talk to them in person to learn how you can start urban homesteading and be more self reliant!
